Innovez One’s expertise on port digitalisation presented to IMO

On 4 June 2021, Innovez-One had the chance to speak to representatives and decision makers from dozens of countries on how every port has the potential to become a smart port, as part of an important meeting of the IMO’s Facilitation Committee (FAL).

IMO delegates heard how Innovez One’s maritime digital solutions have transformed several Indonesian ports, by optimising tug, pilot and service boat operations in the “last mile” of the journey at sea – making them more efficient and bringing significant benefits for their communities. Innovez One’s CEO for Indonesia Adhy Santoso addressed the virtual meeting at the invitation of the Indonesian delegation to the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

The presentation explained how digitalisation was instrumental in unlocking new efficiencies, thereby reducing waiting times and improving the management of tug and pilot orders and dispatch. At the heart of this transformation was Innovez One’s flagship software MarineM, our nautical services planning system powered by artificial intelligence (AI) which automates processes such as order scheduling, deployment, dispatching and billing. The system also provides real-time updates on jobs status and uses data on job types and duration to generate more accurate invoices.

The transition from manual processes to a digitized system helped address problems such as inefficient scheduling and personnel deployment, inaccurate job entries, delays in service response, and wasteful fuel burn. The annual mileage of boats involved in towage and pilotage has been cut by 20%, leading to savings in fuel consumption and fleet maintenance costs as well as a better utilization of resources.

By allowing Indonesian ports to compete as “smart ports” on the global stage, digitalisation also carries the potential for substantial economic growth for entire communities. Indeed, more efficient ports can improve the logistics performance of an entire region or country, enabling a variety of businesses and industries to trade more efficiently.

Yet this potential remains vastly unfulfilled, as over 80% of small and medium-sized ports do not have access to digital solutions or believe that they do not have the financial and technical capabilities to implement them. Innovez One’s ambition is to enable these smaller and mid size ports to become “smart ports”, with an affordable technology that offers a fast return on investment. This has the potential to transform ports and economies for the better, in Asia and around the globe.
