RFID Jewelry Tagging

What is the Jewelry Tag size?
A typical tag, measurable in millimetres, is small and available in various sizes.  A common size in use is 15mm x 30mm.

Can tags be re-used?
Yes certainly – they can be reused by re-encoding each tag with new information.

What are the types of tags supported?
Our readers support several chip sets including Philips ICode, Mifare, and others adhering to ISO 15693 standards.

RFID Reader – Frequently Asked Questions

What components make up a RFID reader?
The RFID Reader comprises  a RFID reader module connected to an antenna.  The antenna picks up the presence of tags and sends the information stored in the tags to the RFID reader module.  In turn, the reader module interprets the information and sends it to the calling application.

What is the reading distance of the reader?
Several factors determine the RFID system’s reading distance.  Under normal circumstances, however,  the Long Range powered RFID system can read a credit card-sized tag from a distance of up to 1.5 metres.

Can the RFID detect tags stacked on top of each other?
Not accurately. This typical question arises from a jewelry work process. After jewelry items are made “fresh from the oven”, they are packed together in a bag. The question often asked is: If the jewelry items are heaped onto the antenna, will it work ?

Unfortunately accuracy in detecting the tagged items falls drastically when they are stacked up on top of each other. The solution is then to tweak the process, place the loose items in a tray before scanning, or manually spread the items evenly on the antenna before scanning.

The point is: The little effort made upfront in fine-tuning the process to improve RFID’s efficiency, reaps financial benefits later down the supply chain.

How many antennas can I connect to a RFID reader?
You can connect 1 antenna per RFID Reader Module.  With a specialized device, however, you can connect up to 4 antennas to one RFID Reader module.

I have X amount of showcase- and shelf-spaces.  How many readers do I need ?
It is often difficult to estimate the extent of a RFID setup just by basing on the area of available shelf- and showcase-spaces alone.  RFID implementation in jewelry stores is determined by other factors such as environmental, automation requirements and budget factors.  Please contact us to discuss further your requirements.  Innovez One will be pleased to advise you on how RFID can work effectively for your company.
